Ashgabat garment factory No. 1 was created on October 22, 1933 by merging small handicraft enterprises. Factory No. 1 was the first in the garment industry system of Turkmenistan. Initially, the factory employed 92 people and installed 60 pieces of sewing equipment. Assortment of sewn products: robes, balakas, national dresses.
Gradually, the range of products expanded, and by 1941 the factory mastered the production of woolen men’s suits, men’s trousers and women’s suits. The number of factory employees increased to 200 people.
During the wartime period, starting from mid-1941, the factory was specialized in the production of military uniforms for the front.
After the end of the war, the factory began to produce consumer goods necessary for the population. With the expansion of the range, technologies were improved and more modern technological equipment was introduced.
During the 1948 earthquake, the factory’s workshops were destroyed. With the help of factory workers, the workshops were rebuilt in a short time.
In the 50s, the Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry sent the first specialists, engineers and technologists of clothing production.
In 1952, production was reorganized and the first conveyor lines were installed for the production of trousers and men’s suits. The cutting shop is being modernized and tape cutting machines are being installed. In the preparation workshop, fitting equipment is installed and fabric calculations are implemented without residual calculations.
In 1964, the factory was specialized in sewing men’s and children’s clothing. Sectional flows were developed and implemented. The labor organization of all production areas was changed. The factory is organizing a workshop for wet-heat processing of finished products using steam presses Ch-311 and Ch-313 made in Hungary. In the sewing shops, universal machines were updated to high-speed 97 class ones, 2-needle 252 class machines for sewing trouser waistbands, 428 class machines for sewing shoe tape into the bottoms of trousers, and some others were introduced.
In 1976, construction began on a new factory building, which was put into operation in 1980. New universal and specialized equipment was additionally installed in the preparatory shop, cutting shop, sewing shops, wet-heat treatment shop and finished product warehouses. In accordance with advanced long-term plans, in 1988-89 a complete technical re-equipment was carried out, equipment from Juki (Japan), Union Special (America), Durkopp (Germany), Minerva (Czech Republic) was introduced. Product output has increased significantly.
In 2007, the factory produced commercial products worth 37,181.7 million manats, including suits for men, trousers for men, workwear, shirts and denim trousers, school suits, children’s denim products.
Currently, the factory sews products necessary for law enforcement agencies, as well as products necessary to meet the demand of the population.
